Full Moon Love Letters
Letter writing has become a thing of the past. When I was young, I remember collecting boxes of stationery and envelopes. I would choose designs that were unicorns and rainbows, roses and vines. I always wrote letters to family and friends from afar. I still have every letter that was sent to me via postal mail: I keep them tucked away in a special box.
A spiritual path is personal. How you nurture your soul will reflect how you live your life. Wouldn't it be nice to write a love letter to yourself?
Getting Started
Writing Ritual
Setting the tone: To set the tone, light a candle and create a writing space. Having a sacred space will allow your energy to soar. Play some nature music in the background and enjoy the creative process. It's all about the energy around you, not the perfect set-up.
Writing Style and Ideas
Love Letter: Design your love letters with paint, stamps, ink and other creative embellishments. Burn the outer edges for a vintage look. Pour candle wax on your letter. Dip your page in brewed tea or coffee and let dry. The creative process will help you unlock your creative portal. If you want to be more creative, mail the letter to yourself.
Journal Style: If you want to go deeper, create a love letter journal. Purchase a journal that speaks to you and use it only for letter writing.
Writing Ideas: What are your greatest strengths? What do you see in yourself that is special and unique? What is the most fascinating thing about yourself? What is different about you? What are your qualities? What do you wish to offer the world? Describe yourself. What makes you stand out?
Letter Ideas: Write a gratitude letter and a forgiveness letter. Write to your inner critic. Write to those who wronged you. Write to your past loved one.
Letters to God: Write a letter to God. Add a bible verse that speaks to you within the subject/topic you are writing about. Create a Letter To God Box. Pray over them. Watch how the magic unfolds.
Time Capsule Love Letter: When writing a letter, add something in the envelope that is special to you: a dried flower, a shell you found along the shore, a fortune you received from a fortune cookie, a clipping from a magazine or newspaper that touched your heart. Find a special bottle or jar big enough to hold your letters. Always add the date to your letter. Don't open it until the date or year you chose.
Collage: Gather pictures and magazine cut-outs and collage around your letter or in your journal. Find words that inspire you and pictures that motivate you.
Sketch: Grab a sketch book and sketch a love letter to yourself. Draw out your feelings. Journal around the drawings. Have fun with this.
I embraced the creative world many years ago as a healing modality. This form of healing takes me away: it allows me to connect with my higher self and face my truth. Writing and art are the language of our emotions and feelings: a great way to express and release our spirit.
*Always use your five senses: sight, taste, touch, hear and smell. Don't forget your sixth sense: Intuition.*
The Twelve Full Moons
Every month, we experience a Full Moon. We are inspired to create a creative and spiritual ritual during this time. What if you wrote a self-love letter inspired by each Full Moon?
πJanuary - Wolf Moon - The Hungry Wolf - The time of year when wolves are hungry. What are you hungry for? During this time, Wolves want to be heard, how would you like to be heard?
πFebruary - Snow Moon - Similar to the Wolf Moon, February is also known as the Hunger Moon. After writing a letter from January, now that you know what you are hungry for, how will you feed your soul?
πMarch - Worm Moon - As the earth softens, the earthworms start to reappear. All that was covered, blossoms and the earthlings come to life. What were you hibernating about this past winter? What needs to reappear? What are you holding onto? Can you let it go?
πApril - Pink Moon - Rebirth. The time of year when flowers bloom and the earth is reborn. A time to BLOOM. Where in your life do you want to bloom?
πMay - Flower Moon - Abundance. During this time, the earth has an abundance of growth. What is overflowing with abundance in your life?
πJune - Strawberry Moon - Gathering. A Time to gather and accumulate your ideas and creative tools to help make your dreams come true. What can you gather? What tools do you need to help with your dreams?
πJuly - Buck Moon - A time to reconnect, listen, relax and a time to stop. Are you listening to the wisdom that resides within your soul? Are you paying attention to the answers that are withheld inside your heart? Like the Buck, he comes out and stands tall. Are you ready to stand tall?
πAugust - Sturgeon Moon - The Big Fish - The Sturgeon moon and fish is to remind us that we are stronger than we know. The sturgeon is known as "the stirrer." He stirs deep into the mud and waters looking for food. What are you stirring up these days? What is cooking in your ocean of dreams?
πSeptember - Harvest Moon - Give thanks. Don't we all love this time of year? Harvest moon is the time to release and cleanse: to let go and give thanks. What are you thankful for? Where in your life do you feel a bounty of joy? What do you need to release?
πOctober - Hunter Moon - Hunting. A time to hunt for ideas and projects to store for the winter season. What projects are left undone? What do you need to hunt for in order for these projects to come to life? Go on a treasure hunt. Write about the treasures within your dreams: the tools that are needed to make your dreams a reality.
πNovember - Beaver Moon - Preparation. How will you prepare for your dreams? How will you prepare for your projects? What will you build? What do you need? How will you store your thoughts and ideas? It's a time for preparation. A time for storing our goods. A time to gather our lessons, experiences and wisdom.
πDecember - Cold Moon - The Longest Night - A cold December night under a Full Moon: lit candles, fresh, clean white paper and a fresh pen. What will you write about? It's the end of the year, a time to relish in what's ahead of us. What are your dreams? Your desires? What have you accomplished this past year? What was left undone? What would you like to carry with you into the New Year?
Embrace and research what resonates with you and add your own wisdom to this beautiful project.
